In this tutorial I’m going to show you how to get a website up and running for $0.99 per month.
That’s right, for less than a buck a month you can have your own website. And we’re not going to skimp on quality here either.
There are many ways to build a website but for a non-techie person WordPress is the best option. WordPress is free to use and already powers about a third of the entire internet.
Since WordPress is free, you’ll be only paying for web hosting. I’ve researched dozens of hosting providers and Hostinger is the best cheap web host by far. It’s fast, reliable, and has great customer support (available 24/7).
To work with WordPress you’ve got to use a theme, which determines the look and feel of your website. The best free to use theme is Kadence WP. Kadence is wickedly fast and lets you build gorgeous, fully customizable websites in a finger snap.
As opposed to some years ago when just getting one line of text online would take you hours, with this guide you’ll have a website online in less than 30 minutes.
So without further ado, let’s get right into it.
Choose a name for your site, buy a domain & hosting (Hostinger)
Every website needs web hosting. Web hosting is where your site lives on the internet; it’s where your site’s images, text and other content are stored.
But in order for people to visit your site, you’ll need a domain name as well.
Hostinger takes care of both those needs. First, click on the Start Now button on the homepage.
Then pick the plan that suits your needs. Obviously, $0.99 option is more basic than the other options, but keep in mind you can always upgrade the plan if you were to outgrow it.
Next up, pick the timeframe you’d like to pay in advance. If you’ve chosen the Single Shared Plan, you’ll have to pay 4 years in advance to get the $0.99 rate. This is quite a long time, but the upside is you’ll pay less than 50 dollars for 4 years’ worth of hosting.
Pick your login details, a payment method and click on the Submit Secure Payment button. Now you’re pretty much set up.
On the next page you can buy a domain name for your website. Then, you can install WordPress in just a couple of clicks in Hostinger’s dashboard.
Installing a WordPress theme (Kadence)
Now I’ll show you how to install a WordPress theme. In the WordPress dashboard, head over to Appearance » Themes.
Then search for Kadence through the search box.
Hoover over Kadence and press the install button. Then activate it. There you go, you’ve now successfully installed the Kadence theme.
In order to customize the theme according to your own wishes, click on Appearance » Customize. Here you can change the font, colors and post lay-out of your website.
And with that, you’ve got your very own website online for less than a dollar a month. As you have seen, it’s pretty simple to build a cheap website which doesn’t make any sacrifices when it comes to looks or functionality.
Now I want to turn things over to you:
