Blog Tips: How to Stay Relevant in the AI Era
I won't beat around the bush. Although blogs still attract quite a few visitors these days and can generate money, I expect this will only decrease in the coming years.
In comparison with social media and YouTube, blogs are boring, and in comparison with AI, blogs are static and tedious.
I myself read fewer and fewer blogs. My friends read fewer blogs. And even my parents are turning to alternative information sources these days – not to mention how Gen Z consumes information.
And I haven't even mentioned Google, which gives people less and less reason to click through to your website, with their AI overviews:

The bottom line is that blogging is past its peak and is becoming less relevant by the day.
That's not to say that blogging is completely pointless. I personally believe it could take years—if not decades—before blogging becomes truly irrelevant. Despite all AI tools, I believe there will still remain a market for unique human content, based on real human experiences.
Here are my blog tips for 2025 and beyond.
The fact that the golden days of blogging are over doesn't mean you should throw in the towel.
Blog tip 1: Only let real experts speak
Generic SEO content written by non-experts who open 5 tabs and cobble together their own words from what they read here is really outdated. AI can do this much better.
Instead, you should only publish blog content created by real experts within the niche. This is more expensive and takes longer, but it ensures that you keep your readers interested.
Blog tip 2: Show personality in a blog
AI answers are (often) good, clear and to-the-point, but they lack personality, a human perspective and the ability to surprise readers.
There will always be a need for content that is raw and authentic, shows a sense of humor, and to which people can relate.
Personal stories, individual opinions, and insights shaped by unique experiences are not something an AI chatbot can replicate.
I often get incredibly annoyed that blogs feel so polished and corporate – even those from independent publishers. That's something you should avoid at all costs. Boredom is deadly.
It's not entirely surprising that Reddit has started ranking so well in the US in recent years. Admittedly, Reddit threads are often full of outdated nonsense, but they are at least not boring.
Blog tip 3: Convert your blog content into other content formats
Many people prefer to consume information in video format. Give these people what they want. Guides and reviews are a few examples of written content that can be easily converted to video.
You can then place these videos in your blog content, which can increase engagement. Additionally, you can also put them on your YouTube channel, and cut them up into shorts that you can distribute across social media.

All of this can lead to more brand searches, which is a positive ranking signal and can help your blog perform better in search engines.
Podcasts, webinars and interactive web pages are other ways to increase engagement and do things that AI (for now) cannot do.
Blog tip 4: Go deep, not wide
We started WebsiteGecko as a blog that discussed everything related to entrepreneurship. Over the past two years, we started focussing much more (practically all content we publish is related to web hosting and website development).
We have even removed dozens of articles from our blog in recent months because we felt that this content no longer fit the direction of our site.
The reason for this is twofold: by becoming more specific, we can create deeper, better content. And additionally, search engines seem to reward websites that are focussed.
Blog tip 5: Focus on quality, not quantity
At a certain point, we were publishing about 25 articles per month on WebsiteGecko. Considering how small our team is, this was an enormous amount.
With the benefit of hindsight, some of this content felt redundant. It answered a question that had already been adequately addressed 20 times by other websites. Or it was an interesting topic, but it only scratched the surface.
These days we're publishing better content with lower frequency.
Blog tip 6: Keep ALL your content up-to-date
If you focus on evergreen content, make sure you review all content on your site at least once a year to ensure it is up-to-date.
Are you finding it difficult to keep all the content on your site regularly relevant and up-to-date? Consider removing some content from your website.
Blog tip 7: Don't view AI as your competitor, but use it to your advantage
Instead of seeing AI as a threat, you can use it to your advantage. AI can help you brainstorm ideas, create outlines or automate SEO tasks, giving you more time for the creative and strategic aspects of blogging.

Conclusion
These are, in my opinion, the most important blog tips for the year 2025.
Use them to stay relevant this year and (hopefully) in the years beyond.
