The 5 Best Landing Page Builders

There are two types of landing pages. The first type is a dedicated, single-page website. With the second type, a landing page is part of a larger website (for example, WebsiteGecko, which consists of hundreds of pages, also has several landing pages).

In short, a landing page is a page with a specific focus and a single clear purpose, such as getting people to sign up for your newsletter or purchase a product. Think of a landing page as the digital version of a flyer.

All landing page builders listed in this overview are basically suitable for creating a single-page website, but the bottom two options will help you accomplish this faster and more easily. However, these bottom two options are unsuitable for creating and managing a complete website.

WordPress with Kadence – Best landing page builder for WordPress

Kadence home

If you're already using WordPress, or considering diving into WordPress for your landing page (and the rest of your site), take a look at Kadence.

I personally use it for all my websites (including landing pages). Simply put, compared to the other options in this overview, it gives you the most freedom in terms of both design and functionality while keeping your costs at a minimum.

Kadence offers both a WordPress theme and a plugin (Kadence Blocks) that functions as a page builder.

Benefits of WordPress with Kadence

  • Incredibly extensive customization options. With WordPress and Kadence, you can build virtually any landing page you can imagine. There are absolutely no limitations when it comes to design and functionality.
  • Lightning fast. Kadence is feather-light. This means your landing page will load extremely quickly.
  • Beautiful ready-made designs. Kadence offers what they call starter templates for practically every type of website (pre-built websites where you only need to customize the images and text), which include several attractive landing page templates.
  • Free version that leaves many other WordPress themes in the dust. Kadence has a pro version, but you can perfectly well create a good landing page using just the free version.

Downsides of WordPress with Kadence

  • Steeper learning curve than the alternatives. Don't get me wrong, WordPress is far from complicated. It's by far the most popular way to create websites and is used by people of all ages with a wide range of technical abilities. However, you do need to be slightly more technically inclined than with the other options in this overview.
  • Probably overkill for single-page websites. If you're planning to stick with just a landing page, without adding a homepage, blog, or contact page to your site? Then this option is a bit like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

Cost of WordPress with Kadence

  • Kadence has a free version and WordPress is also free.
  • All you need to do is pay for web hosting and a domain name, which shouldn't cost more than a few dollars per month.

Wix – Best option among website builders

Wix homepage.

Wix is a website builder that has rapidly gained market share over the past few years. According to Builtwith, there are currently 8.5 million Wix websites online.

It's a tool that's easier to use than WordPress. Nevertheless, you can still create pretty decent websites with it.

Wix is extremely well-suited as a landing page builder because it offers a generous collection of beautifully designed landing page templates ready for you to use.

Wix landing page templates.

Benefits of Wix

  • Easy to master. Give it a day and you should be able to get the hang of Wix fairly well.
  • Compared to other website builders, it offers many design and functionality options. While Wix doesn't come close to WordPress in this regard, it provides significantly more versatility than direct competitors like Webador and Webnode.
  • It has a free version. Admittedly, with this option your site will be placed on a subdomain and ads will be plastered on your website. However, you can at least try out the tool to your heart's content to see if it's right for you.

Downsides of Wix

  • It's quite expensive. For the cheapest Wix plan (which is rather basic and actually unsuitable for landing pages due to the lack of website analytics), you're already paying $16 per month. That's significantly more expensive than the alternatives in this overview.
  • The design options can be overwhelming for some people. You can position website elements with pixel-perfect precision. The lack of restrictions means novice designers might more easily make mistakes.

Wix pricing

  • Free. Only suitable for testing purposes as Wix advertisements will be displayed on your landing page.
  • Light. $16 per month. Not ideal for landing pages due to the lack of website analytics.
  • Core. $27 per month. It's only with this plan that Wix actually includes all the features you need for an effective landing page.

Useful Resources

Webador – The simplest landing page builder

Webador home.

Webador is a Dutch website builder that caters to complete beginners: people who prefer to spend as little time as possible understanding a web platform.

This is both a strength and a weakness. Yes, Webador is very easy to use, but you're quite limited in terms of design and functionality.

The landing pages you can create with Webador are functional, but not flashy.

Benefits of Webador

  • Extremely easy to use. Webador understands their target audience perfectly. Webador users want simplicity, and this website builder delivers exactly what they need.
  • You can still build a complete website with it. Besides a landing page, you can also add something like an online store to your Webador site.

Downsides of Webador

  • The designs are outdated. It's a shame that many Webador templates seem stuck in 2015 in terms of appearance. The official Webador website itself speaks volumes about this issue.
  • Only suitable for the simplest of webpages. What applies to Webador as a website builder also applies to the landing pages you can create with it. All the basic functionality is there, but don't expect anything flashy or groundbreaking.

Webador pricing

  • Free. Only suitable for testing purposes as Webador advertisements will be displayed on your landing page.
  • Light. €4.50 per month. Webador ads still appear on your site, so not suitable for landing pages.
  • Pro. €8.50 per month. This is the minimum Webador plan you'll need to create effective landing pages.

Carrd – Best free landing page builder (for single-page websites)

Carrd homepage

When it comes to pure landing page builders, Carrd is your best option in my opinion. It serves people who want to get a beautifully designed landing page online in the simplest way possible.

Carrd interface.

With the free version, you can create up to 3 landing pages under the .carrd.co domain, but you won't be able to connect Google Analytics or payment methods. The free version also doesn't allow you to collect email addresses.

The Carrd plan that offers all these features costs just a pittance – $19 per year – making it a very accessible tool to add to your marketing arsenal.

Benefits of Carrd

  • The restrictions of the Carrd editor make it ideal for non-designers. Design freedom is nice, but not if you lack design talent. The Carrd templates can be customized in such a limited way that it's difficult to mess things up.
  • Unique, modern landing page designs. It's clear that Carrd is a design-oriented company. Their landing page templates look fresh, balanced, and original.
  • Super simple to use. Think PowerPoint level of difficulty. The learning curve is practically non-existent.
  • Excellent free version. Admittedly, you can't choose from many templates with the free version, but you do get access to all functionality (within the editor at least). Plus, they won't place any annoying ads on your page.

Dowsides of Carrd

  • The Carrd landing page editor is limited. You have even less freedom of choice than with Webador.

Carrd pricing

  • Free. 3 landing pages. The editor offers all the functionality you need, but you can only choose between two templates and you won't have access to analytics or other integrations.
  • Pro Light. $9 per year. 3 landing pages. You get access to all templates. However, advanced functionality is not included.
  • Pro Standard. $19 per year. 10 landing pages. Access to all templates and access to integrations and analytics.

ConvertKit – Ideal for generating newsletter subscriptions

ConvertKit Home.

ConvertKit primarily focuses on content creators (bloggers, YouTubers, musicians, and other creative individuals) – not on businesses or web agencies. If the purpose of your landing page is to generate email leads, then there are few better options than ConvertKit.

You get access to more than 50 templates and can use the product for free for as long as you want (up to 1,000 email subscribers). Of course, the free version lacks important features such as integrations with other apps and the ability to automatically send email sequences to new subscribers. However, it's a good way to get started with ConvertKit and see if it's right for you.

ConvertKit template.

Benefits of ConvertKit

  • Purely focused on content creators. ConvertKit isn't the type of software that tries to be everything to everyone. This tool is exclusively designed for creative professionals.
  • Choose from over 50 templates. This means there's something for everyone. Moreover, all the templates are consistently well-designed.
  • One of the most impressive email marketing tools on the market. Personally, I don't use ConvertKit for my email campaigns, but colleagues who do swear by it.

Downsides of ConvertKit

  • Gets expensive quickly as your email list grows. With 10,000 email subscribers, you'll pay at least $100 per month.

ConvertKit pricing

  • Free. Up to 1,000 email subscribers. Lacks features such as email sequences and integrations.
  • Creator. Starting at $9 per month. Up to 300 subscribers. After that, costs can increase quite rapidly.
  • Creator Pro. Starting at $25 per month. This gives you access to advanced integrations and other premium features.

How do you choose a landing page builder?

The first question you need to ask yourself is whether you ultimately want to build a complete website, or keep it to just a single page.

If that's the first case, then your choice is much simpler: within my top 5, you only need to look at Kadence (WordPress), Wix, and Webador.

I use Kadence with WordPress for all my landing pages and websites because it offers the perfect mix of design and functionality options while remaining simple to use. That said, it's more suitable for DIYers who are willing to watch at least a few YouTube tutorials to get up to speed. You don't need to write code for WordPress, but it helps if you're somewhat tech-savvy.

Webador is extremely easy to use but is more limited in terms of both designs and functionality.

Regarding this aspect, Wix falls exactly between Kadence with WordPress and Webador. However, something to keep in mind: a Wix site is significantly more expensive than either a WordPress site or a Webador site.

Is your landing page going to be the only page on your site? Then technically any option would work for you. However, it's probably a good idea to specifically consider Carrd and ConvertKit. With these tools, you can get an attractive landing page online the fastest. Both are also free to use.

What features should good landing page software have?

I've been building websites for almost 10 years and have launched numerous landing pages over the past 3 years (using various tools). When testing and evaluating landing page builders, I pay particular attention to the following points:

  • It must be easy to use and customize. In my opinion, everyone should be able to build a beautiful landing page with minimal technical knowledge. You shouldn't need to fiddle with CSS to make a landing page match your brand.
  • It should be easy to add any type of CTA. Whether it's an email list, a purchase button, or a contact form.
  • Good selection of landing page templates. Quality takes precedence over quantity here. Good templates are especially important if you have limited design experience. Instead of immersing yourself in the ins and outs of web design, you only need to customize the text and images within the template.
  • Email and social media integrations. So you can grow your email list and social media followers.
  • Data analysis options. Measurement is knowledge.

In addition, and this is somewhat self-explanatory, it should be possible to connect your own domain name to your landing page.

Finally, the price should be fair in relation to what you get. There are plenty of other good tools I considered. I don't include these in this overview because competing tools offer the same (or more/better) features for less money.

Tips for creating an effective landing page

When creating an effective landing page, keep the following points in mind:

  • Don't stray too far from the beaten path – follow best practices.
  • Make sure the title of your landing page seamlessly aligns with your offer.
  • Keep it simple. On a landing page, you want your visitor to take one specific action. Don't distract them.
  • Emphasize the value of your offer rather than product specifications.
  • Invest a tremendous amount of time in your Call-to-Action (CTA).
  • Continuously test your landing page.
